Never too late…

Monday 21st March 2022

Sadness and regret over creative hobbies we let slip as children, young people or even adults can affect us more than we like to admit…

In conversation, I am always interested in finding out what creative pursuits lie abandoned and forgotten in the crusty corners of minds and hearts…

‘I loved drawing as a child.’

‘I don’t have the time now…well I suppose it’s just that I don’t make time but I used to really enjoy knitting. My grandma taught me.’

‘I can’t remember the time I picked up a sketch book. I was good too!’

‘Why didn’t I persuade my parents to let me do a creative A level? Art was my favourite subject but they made me do something ‘sensible’ and ‘useful…’’

We can decide to cling on to these regrets, like stroking an injured animal to our breast, knowing that its cause is lost and the opportunity to help and heal over and too late.

Or we can start to gently question defeating thoughts that pull us down and ask, ‘Is it really too late?’

I don’t think there is such a thing as too late…if you are 8, 18 or 80 and have a creative urge drawing and calling you, don’t leave it another day but just start.
